What an amazing start of the year.
Our paper together with Helix Institute in Nigeria got published:

🔬 What we did
We studied the environmental impact of single-use plastic diagnostic cassettes and explored Okos' eco-cassettes as a sustainable alternative. We tested plant-based, biodegradable lateral flow cassettes under real-world conditions. The field study compared degradation across sandy, clayey, and loamy soils to reflect how diagnostics are actually disposed of.
📊 What we found
The biodegradable cassettes showed clear degradation over time, while conventional plastic cassettes remained largely unchanged. Breakdown was most pronounced in loamy soil, highlighting how local environmental conditions influence biodegradation, particularly in tropical settings.
💡 Why this matters
Diagnostics are essential for global health, but their environmental footprint cannot be ignored. This study provides field-based evidence that sustainable diagnostic materials are viable and offers baseline data to support the development of greener standards for single-use medical devices.
Our overall aim was to provide real-world evidence of our sustainable innovation and to push the medical industry to come up with more sustainable alternatives🌏
