We are proud to share that Okos Diagnostics, together with the LUMC Immunodiagnostics Group for Mycobacterial Diseases, has been awarded a PPS subsidy from Health~Holland.

In this project, we will develop a circular, biobased multi-biomarker rapid test platform for the diagnosis of leprosy and tuberculosis. The goal is to improve early detection, including for patient groups that are currently difficult to diagnose, while simultaneously reducing the environmental footprint of diagnostics.

The expected impact on leprosy and TB healthcare is threefold:

  • Increased access to diagnostics, particularly in low-resource settings

  • More than 80% reduction in fossil plastic use per test, lowering CO₂ emissions through local, biobased production

  • A modular and circular test format that can be extended to other diseases without introducing new fossil-based product lines

The Immunodiagnostics Group for Mycobacterial Diseases at LUMC will lead the biomarker research and clinical validation, while Okos Diagnostics focuses on platform development and scalable production.

A step toward diagnostic tests that are not only effective, but also sustainable.
